Pairwork

Our traditional syllabus includes a number of set sparring pair-work exercises, these are listed below. Stay tuned as videos will also be added to this page for additional training support.

3-Step Sparring

Attacker always begin Right leg back. Step forward three times with middle section punches in walking stance

 

Defender begins in parallel ready stance.

Yellow Belt

 

1. Defence:     Right leg back walking stance.
                       Middle inner forearm block to the inside of the attackers punch three times

1. Counter:     Reverse punch (right hand)

2. Defence:     Left leg back ‘L’ stance.
                       Middle inner forearm block to the outside of the attackers punch, three times.

2. Counter:     Right hand knifehand strike, stepping forward with front foot into sitting stance.

​3. Defence:     Left leg back ‘L’ stance.
                       Middle inner forearm block to the inside three times.

3. Counter:     Right hand back fist strike to bridge of nose, slipping front foot into walking stance.

 

Yellow / Green Belt

 

4. Defence:     Left back ‘L’ stance.
                       Middle inner forearm block to the outside three times

4. Counter:     Step out into sitting stance with left leg.
                       Middle section double punch (left then right)h

5. Defence:     Right leg back ‘L’ stance.
                       Middle outer forearm block to the inside two times.

5. Counter:     On the third punch, move to the right to form a sitting stance. Execute a left hand outer forearm block and a high section punch with the right hand simultaneously.

​6. Defence:    Right leg back ‘L’ stance.
                      Middle outer knifehand block to the inside two times.

6. Counter:     On the third punch, move to the right to form a sitting stance. Execute a left hand middle section outer knifehand block and a right hand high section inwards knife hand strike simultaneously.

Green Belt

7. Defence:     Right leg back ‘L’ stance. Middle outer forearm block to the inside twice, step back at 45 degree angle to the right forming ‘L’ stance, execute forearm guarding block.

7. Counter:     Right leg front kick, double punch (middle section) in walking stance.

8. Defence:    Right leg back ‘L’ stance. Middle outer knifehand block to the inside twice, on the third punch step back at 45 degree angle to the right forming an ‘L’ stance, execute knifehand guarding block.

8. Counter:     Right leg side piercing kick, right high section back-fist strike in ‘L’ stance.

​9. Defence:    Right leg back ‘L’ stance. Middle palm pushing block to the inside two times. On the third punch step back at 45 degree angle to the left forming ‘L’ stance, forearm guarding block.

9. Counter:     Right leg turning kick to middle section, high section knife hand strike in vertical stance.

2-Step Sparring

Attacker always begins in a guarding stance, left leg forward.

 

Defender begins in parallel ready stance.

 

1. Attack:        Right hand high punch, left leg front kick.

1. Defence:     Left leg back walking stance. Left hand rising block

                       Right leg back walking stance,‘X’ fist pressing block

1. Counter:     Twin vertical punch

2. Attack:       Right hand side punch (fixed stance), turning kick.

2. Defence:    Right leg back ‘L’ stance, upward palm block Left leg back ‘L’ stance, waist block.

2. Counter:    Slide forward into right ‘L’ stance, right hand side elbow strike.

3. Attack:       Front kick, twin vertical punch

3. Defence:    Right leg back walking stance,‘X’ fist pressing block
                      Left leg back, walking stance, outer forearm wedging block.

3. Counter:    Pull down on opponent’s shoulders, with a simultaneous knee strike.

4. Attack:       Right hand flat fingertip thrust (high section), Left leg side kick

4. Defence:    Right leg back walking stance, knifehand rising block Left leg back ‘L’ stance, inward palm pushing block

4. Counter:    Front kick to coccyx, twin upset punch to kidneys.
