The Tenets of Taekwondo

Why are these important on a discussion around black belts? Simply because the more I train, the more I read, the more I understand the process.

A black belt isn’t about being the strongest, fastest, or the most warrior like, it’s also a mind-set, it’s an approach, it goes beyond a martial artist’s physical ability:

- Courtesy – Ye Ui

- Integrity – Yom Chi

- Perseverance – In Nae

- Self-Control – Guk Gi

- Indomitable Spirit – Baekjul Boolgool

This knowledge, above my technical ability, gives me confidence that I can succeed in achieving a black belt. I believe my approach to training to be appropriate and would certainly like to think I can represent the Tenets well in my day-to-day life.

I am working on the indomitable spirit.
